Doncaster sign experienced Samoan

Doncaster have announced the signing of Samoan international Misi Taulapapa from Newcastle Thunder on a one-year deal.

Taulapapa has a wealth of experience having played in the NRL for New Zealand Warriors and Cronulla Sharks. He also played for Sheffield Eagles and Featherstone Rovers.

Taulapapa told the club website: “The pandemic gave me a lot of time to think and reflect on how much I’ve missed playing so when the opportunity came to join the Dons I jumped at it.

“I’ve got a young family so for me Doncaster is a great move for me in terms of location and the group we’ve got here. I’m really looking forward to what I can bring to the dressing room, I like to be a big character around the place.”

Chief executive Carl Hall added: “Misi sets very high standards on and off the field, after speaking to several people about him and everyone of them gave a glowing reference on what he brings to the team.

“He was offered better rugby league contracts elsewhere, but we’ve been fortunate enough to give Misi a deal which gives him a job with one of our main sponsors New Image Contracts  – and that will allow him to support his family more than any one-year contracts going forward.

“He has plans to stay in the UK long-term, and by bringing him to our club at this stage of his career there is the option of him joining the backroom staff in the future.”
