Disciplinary: Former Super League star heads to tribunal for ‘biting’

Jorge Taufua was released earlier this season by Wakefield Trinity and he has since linked up with Bradford Bulls in the Championship as the Odsal side aim to return to the top table, one that they dominated in the early Super League era, but the winger will now head to tribunal on a charge of biting.

The incident happened during Monday night’s fixture with the Bulls welcoming Paul Crarey’s Barrow Raiders to Odsal but ultimately falling to defeat.

It was a strange game as it saw Barrow opt to take a number of penalties with their first ten points all coming from the boot as they edged out the home side 14-10 with all of the Raiders points coming from Ryan Shaw.

The game took a huge turn in the 30th minute though when ex Trinity man Taufua was shown a red card with confusion initially surrounding why, before speculation circled that it was for biting.

That’s now been confirmed with the Match Review Panel handing him a Grade F charge for biting and set to head to tribunal.

Another Championship player will also head to tribunal with Newcastle Thunder’s Brad Gallagher copping a charge of unacceptable language.

That’s the same charge that twice saw Warrington Wolves’ former Australian Josh McGuire land seven and then twelve match bans, before being released by the club earlier this year.
