Danny Ward reveals whether he was interested in Castleford Tigers job after Lee Radford sacking

Former Leeds Rhinos star Danny Ward has taken charge of Castleford Tigers and the former London Broncos boss is right in at the deep end with one of the biggest fixtures of the season with a clash against Wakefield Trinity which could determine which of the two teams will be relegated come the end of the season.

Ward played for Castleford in 2006 when they lost a similar game at Belle Vue which relegated the club and in 2019 Ward’s London lost at Wakefield in the last game of the season resulting in relegation.

Now he can right those wrongs.

Speaking on taking over the club, he said: “Yeah, the first few days were madness really, don’t think I slept for a few days, on the phone and organising things. It was just an absolute whirlwind really.

“But yeah, this week’s been really good. I couldn’t have asked for any more from the players and the staff. The players have really reacted well and brought a lot of energy to the field session and brought in a little bit of tweaks that we’ve brought in and what we’re trying to do and look at this week.

“Everyone at the club, from groundsmen to assistant coaches to anyone who’s been making the brews have all been fantastically warm, welcome and couldn’t have asked for anything more.”

Ward was linked with the club back when lee Radford left and Ward confirmed he was interested:

“Yeah no secret I’d have been interested in the job previously, a club that I’ve played at and I am passionate about doing a good job at.

“You look at the squad and the roster they’ve got there as well, that’s an exciting group of players to come in and take charge of as well.

“A well supported club, the fans are fantastic, the atmosphere at games has always been unbelievable, whether played here as an opponent or played here for Cas. So, it’s a really exciting club to me, a traditional, passionate club that I’m excited to be at. So, yeah, just buzzing to be in charge now and able to take us forward in these next six games.”
