Danny McGuire tips Hull KR star for England

Last night was a difficult night for Hull KR. They started so well against the Rhinos taking a 14-6 lead early on but 22 unanswered points from the Rhinos coupled with two fresh injury blows set the Robins up for a defeat that leaves them three points adrift of the play-offs.

But there were plenty of brilliant performers like Matt Parcell, Ryan Hall and especially Jez Litten.

The hooker again started in the halves as he did last week having also played loose-forward recently. His two kicks led to tries for Ryan Hall and Kane Linnett early on as the Robins took a 14-6 lead.

After the game, interim boss Danny McGuire was full of praise for the versatile nine as he spoke to Jenna Brooks of Sky Sports even backing him to play for England: “He’s been brilliant, he probably doesn’t get the recognition he deserves.

“he was a little bit upset there because he made a couple of poor kicks at the start of the second half and I put my arm round him and told him how much of a warrior he has been this last month playing in different positions and just putting his hand up every week.

“He’ll play for England that kid, hold me on that quote because he will.”

McGuire also went on to dissect the defeat as he bemoaned the number of penalties his side gave away.

“Probably a lack of discipline cost us,” McGuire said, “We gave too many penalties away and missed one on one tackles.

“It’s not a complicated game we play. If you miss tackles in key areas – they took advantage of that.

“I’m disappointed but we were in their scrapping right till the end as well which fills me with pride that we’re having a dig right till the end.”

The Robins’ early momentum was derailed by injuries to skipper Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Greg Richards.

On Kenny-Dowall, McGuire said: “He’s torn his MCL so that’s not good. We’re used to it at the moment, it seems to be happening to us every week. Greg Richards has torn his hamstring.

“This is not looking for sympathy but I’ve no idea how we’re going to put a team out next week or the two games over the weekend the week after. Someone needs to help us out there.”
