Could underfire Wests Tigers’ Luke Brooks make shock move to Super League?

The much-maligned Luke Brooks has had a hellish few seasons in the NRL with the Wests Tigers.

After being dropped for the first time in his 185-game NRL career ahead of Wests’ clash with struggling New Zealand Warriors next week, Brooks looks to be once more on the periphery at Concord.

The halfback was linked with a move to the Newcastle Knights for most of the off-season, but came out and denied that he had handed in a transfer request in a bid to end his nightmare at Wests.

Having come through the ranks as a junior in 2013, Brooks has played under six different coaches at the Tigers, but only one – interim coach Brett Kimmorley – has made the decision to drop him.

That has set the rumour mill firing with some reports Down Under linking the halfback with a Super League move in order for him to break free from the intense media spotlight in the NRL.

And, with Hull FC having parted ways with their own marquee signing Josh Reynolds this week, people are putting two and two together and getting four – with Brooks reportedly being eyed up for a Super League move.

Hull boss Brett Hodgson was asked midweek about another NRL halfback – Dean Hawkins – but that conversation was rubbished whilst talk on a potential move for Bevan French from Wigan Warriors has gone cold.

For Brooks, it would certainly be a way of rejuvenating his career and taking a break from the constant pressure in the Australian competition.

And, with the Black and Whites getting rid of their highest earner, who’s to say it couldn’t happen and happen now?
