Chase confirms club for 2020

Former Castleford, Salford and Widnes halfback Rangi Chase has confirmed he is staying with Doncaster for next season.

The 33-year-old signed with the Dons on a short-term deal in May following the completion of his two-year drugs ban in the aim of getting back to full match fitness.

He had been linked with several Super League and Championship clubs for 2020 but has now signed a one-year contract extension to stay at the Keepmoat Stadium.

“I’m happy to get it (this deal) over the line, in my mind I was always going to stay here but it is good to get it all sorted and I can look forward to the future, Chase told the Dons’ club website.

Chase signed with Doncaster earlier this season.

“It was hard when I came back and I was frustrated because I wanted to offer a bit more but my fitness levels still needed some work.

“Timing and things like that come with work, I had been out for a long time but I feel like that is improving each week.

“I’m a bit of a different player and it takes time for people to get used to me, the more I have those players around me the better the understanding will be.”

Doncaster chief executive Carl Hall added: “Rangi has shown his class both on and off the pitch since joining the club, and has given us an added threat in our attacking game.

“Richard Horne made it clear how important it was that we got the deal done, with Rangi being such an important player and other clubs showing a keen interest in him.

“To have secured his signature for next season is massive for our club and hopefully the fans will see the best of him after a full pre-season, but he still has a big part to play in the current campaign as well.”
