Friday 4th August at noon marks the deadline for registering new players to ensure they are able to play in the 2023 season and as such deals have been happening at a rapid rate this past week with Tyler Dupree’s move to Wigan Warriors being one of the first, before Oliver Gildart signing with Leigh Leopards and then Blake Austin swapping Leeds Rhinos for Castleford Tigers.
That wasn’t the last piece of business that the Tigers have done with the club now confirming that young hooker Cain Robb is headed to the Championship on loan for the rest of the season.
The 20-year-old will link up with Swinton who are aiming to survive their first season in the Championship and are in a close relegation scrap with four other sides including Newcastle Thunder, Keighley Cougars, Whitehaven and Barrow Raiders.
Robb has played at times this season but even with Cas short on hookers given the potential season-ending injury that Paul McShane has accrued, they have still sent him out on loan.
They announced the news via their website and social media with the following statement.
“Castleford Tigers can announce that Cain Robb will join Championship side Swinton Lions on loan until the end of the 2023 season.
“The 20-year-old hooker has made seven appearances in total this campaign for Cas but will now gain valuable game time with Allan Coleman’s squad.
“The Tigers have implemented a call-back option if they require the youngster to return at any point and would like to wish Cain the best of luck during his stint with the Lions.”

Swinton also confirmed the news with Robb being a huge boost in their fight to survive, the Lions currently sat 13th in the table but looking to survive by landing three other loan deals as well as Robb.
“Following a hectic couple of days ahead of the transfer deadline, we are pleased to announce the arrival of four loan signings, each to the end of the season,” a statement on the club website began.
“Firstly an exciting double capture from Wakefield Trinity! Robbie Butterworth, who can play half-back or full-back, made his Super League debut earlier this season. He is 20 years old with a big future ahead of him.
“Also coming to Heywood Road from Belle Vue is middle Dane Windrow. Dane is also 20 years old and is on the fringes of Wakefield’s first team.
“We are also delighted to bring in Cain Robb from Castleford Tigers. Although still short of his 21st birthday, Cain already has plenty of Super League experience under his belt with Cas and will provide an enormous boost at number 9, especially given the injury to Josh Eaves last week.
“For further cover at hooker, we have also taken 24 years old Nathan Conroy on loan from Hunslet.”
