Catalans sign Joel Tomkins

Joel Tomkins has signed for Catalans Dragons on a two-year deal.

The 32-year-old, who was Hull KR’s captain last season, will link up with brother Sam in Perpignan.

Tomkins will bring valuable experience to Steve McNamara’s side having won every domestic honour in the game.

The former England international back-rower made his name at Wigan and has just short of 300 first-grade appearances to his name.

On signing for the Dragons, Tomkins told the club’s official website: “Since playing against the Dragons in their first ever Super League game in 2006, I have always admired the clubs ambition to grow and achieve success.

“Being given the opportunity to be a part of the Catalans Dragons is a great honour for me and I am determined to do what I can to help the club to achieve success in the coming years.”

Catalans head coach Steve McNamara added: “Joel is an experienced, hardened competitor who plays and trains to win.

“He will add great value to all within our organisation and I personally look forward to working with him again after previously coaching him for England.”
