The biggest derby in Super League is a major talking point amongst fans.
When Bradford Bulls were in Super League, their clash with Leeds Rhinos was often hailed as titanic, but the Hull and Wigan-St Helens derbies now take precedence.
Players and fans of both sides stoke up the rivalries with debates over which is the biggest and best derby and those that have played in them also give their twopenny’s worth – including former Wigan star Sam Tomkins.
“It’s the biggest and it’s the best (the Wigan-Saints derby),” Tomkins said on Sky Sports.
“There’s 130 years of history between two clubs that are very close geographically.
“Going to school around Wigan, there were always a couple of St Helens fans around the school and I’m sure it’s the same in St Helens.
“It’s a rivalry that’s right through the town – there’s no one in Wigan or Saints that doesn’t know about it.
“It’s built up over time and it’s one of the greatest aspects of Super League.”
If those comments were tame, then his on social media certainly weren’t.
Tomkins tweeted: “What’s your predictions for today’s games? In the curtain raiser I’m going for Hull KR win, 25-18. And I think the main event will go to golden point, Jai Field try to win it.”
What’s your predictions for today’s games?
In the curtain raiser I’m going for Hull KR win, 25-18.
And I think the main event will go to golden point, Jai Field try to win it.
