Castleford Tigers youngster reacts to receiving huge honour

With the season well in the rear view mirror and fans starting to look forward to the pre-season friendlies and the start of the 2023 season, it’s easy to forget some of the brilliant rugby we have seen in 2022 as it draws to a close.

The official Betfred Super League Titter account have been asking fans recently to vote on their try of the season and over Christmas the winner was confirmed.

Castleford Tigers’ Jason Qareqare won it for his insane 80-metre try in which he beat two or three men to burst free and tiptoe down the touchline to score beating out nine other brilliant tries.

Qareqare is only 18 but has got one hell of a future in the game having scored another great try on his debut as well, but this one was simply spectacular.

What makes the try even more special was that it came against St Helens who boasted the best defence throughout last season and eventually won the Grand Final but it was a much changed St Helens side.

Last year’s winner Mikey Lewis came second for his chip-and-chase effort against Salford Red Devils, whilst in third place also went to Humberside with Hull FC’s Cam Scott putting in another brilliant chip-and-chase try following some smart offloading.

The fact that Qareqare’s effort was fan voted as well will also mean a lot to the youngster who will try and step up and fill the 18 try void left following Derrell Olpherts move to Leeds Rhinos.

Now he has taken to Twitter to react to receiving the honour once again.

He said:

“So grateful and honoured to receive this award, can’t thank you all enough for the messages and support I’ve had over the past year. Roll on 2023!”
