Castleford Tigers set to secure stadium planning permission

Castleford Tigers Jungle

The story around the home of the Castleford Tigers is a long and complicated one even since they received funding to commence redevelopment.

The Tigers created plans for their £2 million sum for two projects. These were the redevelopment of the Jungle and plans for Junction 32.

However, since publishing these plans the Tigers have routinely had issues holding them back. First, the National Highways opposed the plans though have now agreed to both.

Secondly, the Environmental Agency reportedly opposed the stadium redevelopment plans due to a flooding concern.

Recently, Mark Grattan said the Tigers were closing in on a solution and Serious About Rugby League understands that permission could be given as soon as February.

The Tigers have worked hard to appease the Environmental Agency and the Tigers are closing in on planning permission.

The home of the Castleford Tigers has long been the subject of discussion and will continue to be so until this redevelopment is complete.

The Tigers have played at the Jungle on Wheldon Road for their entire Super League stint which has a capacity of 12,000 though has held much larger crowds such as their record crowd in 1935 for a Challenge Cup tie with Hull KR.

There was talk a decade ago of the Tigers moving to a Stadium on Junction 32 of the M62 where Xscape is located. Though the Tigers have building plans for this which have been agreed to be National Highways, the club will not be relocating there.

Furthermore, there has been talk in the past of the Tigers sharing a stadium with Wakefield Trinity which will certainly not be the case with both clubs redeveloping their grounds thanks to £2 million sums given to both by Wakefield City Council.

Thus, the Tigers will remain at the Jungle even whilst this redevelopment work is taking place warning fans that their season tickets may have to be relocated due to building work.

The club’s situation has been helped by the increased funding from new Director Martin Jepson who also brings the expertise of a Property Giant.
