Castleford Tigers set to make big “announcements” on 2025 squad

Castleford Tigers

Castleford Tigers have been at the heart of a lot of different discussions as of late.

They have taken a step towards securing their stadium redevelopment which should massively boost their IMG score.

But also their start to the season has been less than desirable. They were encouraging against the Wigan Warriors in Round One until Liam Watts was controversially sent off and their opening game unravelled.

The Tigers then pushed Salford Red Devils all the way in Round Two. Then in Round Three, they went to Warrington Wolves and they started the game well but were eventually blown away by Sam Burgess’ side.

Then in the weeks following they have conceded over a combined 90 points which has raised questions about the Tigers moving forward.

This has raised questions about whether the Tigers would turn to the transfer market but Craig Lingard said the club were focused on off field matters rather than the on field due to the IMG score instead.

That being said, Sky Sports Stuart Pyke did report that the club were interested in making three marquee signings for 2025.

But the club also have a huge number of players off contract at the end of the 2024 season.

Craig Lingard has confirmed that some agreements have been made with these off contract players.

He said on Tigers TV: “Conversations have been had with some of those players who are out of contract and hopefully we can make some announcements on those we have already agreed shortly.

“But that will be a process that we go on throughout the season.

“As is always the case with those out of contract it will be based on performance. Some players we might want to keep and they might want to move on. Some we might want to keep but we might not agree on a value with the player.

“There are different combinations and permutations to it all. There might be people here that move on but those discussions haven’t been had yet.

“People are quite rightly playing for contracts and we want to generate some decent performances on the field to make that happen.”
