Castleford Tigers’ reported new signing set for mammoth ban after being referred for ‘further investigation’

Whenever the Disciplinary Match Review Panel reveals its latest sanctions and charges, there is huge interest in seeing which stars will be banned.

Sometimes, though, some are referred for further investigation before they even get a ban which could signal a mammoth suspension is on its way.

One such player is Hull KR’s Albert Vete, who has reportedly signed for Castleford Tigers for 2022, as perĀ Rugby League Live.

Vete has been ‘referred for further investigation’ for ‘other contrary behaviour’ displayed during KR’s win over Hull FC on Saturday afternoon.

It’s unclear what the rampaging prop has done, but the Operations Rules Tribunal will decide on that tomorrow night.

If found guilty, Vete could be looking at an eight-match ban and above which, if his move to Castleford is on the cards, would rule the prop out of the Tigers’ first eight games of the 2023 Super League season.

Of course, following that dismal loss to KR at the weekend, FC’s board has acted quickly in parting ways with Brett Hodgson by mutual consent.

It’s been a dire few years for the Black and Whites with Hull finishing in eighth last year and ninth in 2022 – something which has been deemed unacceptable for a Super League side that spends as much as FC do.

Now, it appears as though a new coach is imminent.

Elsewhere from the bans handed out, Rhyse Martin will miss Leeds’ crunch clash with the Catalans Dragons on Friday night after he was charged with a Grade A High Tackle.

Following the latest round of Betfred Super League and League One fixtures, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions:

Sam Hall (Castleford Tigers) ā€“ Grade C Dangerous Contact ā€“ 2 Match Penalty Notice
Suaia Matagi (Castleford Tigers) ā€“ Grade B Dangerous Contact ā€“ 2 Match Penalty Notice
Rhyse Martin (Leeds Rhinos) ā€“ Grade A High Tackle ā€“ 1 Match Penalty Notice

Matty Storton (Hull KR) ā€“ Grade A Dangerous Contact ā€“ 0 Match Penalty Notice
Liam Whitton (Cornwall) ā€“ Grade B Foul Abuse Towards Referee ā€“ 1 Match Penalty Notice

The following players were handed cautions:

Daniel Spencer-Tonks (Salford Red Devils) – Other Contrary Behaviour

Youā€™re wrong as usual. Being referred for further investigation is different to the large suspensions that get ā€œreferred to tribunalā€
