Castleford Tigers owner responds to accusations he is taking money out of Super League club

Castleford Tigers owner Ian Fulton has dispelled rumours that he has been taking money out of the club.

The Tigers have lately brought in a new investor in the shape of Martin Jepson. The Real Estate giant has joined the club to help support the Tigers in chasing a better IMG score after they missed out on the initial top 12 in 2023.

He has also been a crucial factor in signing Hull KR second-row Luis Johnson for next year.

But this comes after these rumours about Ian Fulton which he has dispelled when speaking to the COYFCast Podcast.

“I’ve never taken money out,” he said on the COYFCast, “I know there has been people picking up on the interest. The interest has been shown on the accounts for the last eight years and it has been an accrued amount so every year that interest has increased – I’ve never taken any of it, it has been shown for an accounting purpose.

“As of 30 November, the interest amount will have been written off – not written off because I’ve taken it but written off out of the accounts. It all helps the balance sheet.

“As for taking money out myself or my sister, we have never taken money out or never taken out the accrued interest but that has been removed from the accounts and won’t be going back on.

“All this information is public knowledge, partly it’s our own fault because we’ve never dispelled rumours but if you reply to every rumour you wouldn’t do anything else.

“I can categorically state we have never taken anything out of it and have no intention of doing so.”

The club are hoping for a better 2023 on the field and have signed the likes of Luke Hooley from Leeds Rhinos, Sam Wood from Hull KR and former St Helens and Hull FC centre Josh Simm.

However, they have a big focus on growing the IMG score and securing their Super League standing moving into 2025 and this is where Jepson’s investment and Fulton’s commitment to the club is absolutely key to their ambitions moving into the new year.
