Speaking on BBC Two after their defeat to Wigan Warriors, Castleford Tigers Head Coach Craig Lingard addressed the 32-4 defeat against the Champions.

Lingard was proud of his side’s effort in the defeat against the Super League Champions, saying to BBC Two: “A lot of heart, you know the Castleford public wants the sort of team that’s going to play for the badge and work really hard and put loads of effort in. I thought we saw that in abundance today.

“I think there are areas where we can be better. A bit more patience with the ball in hand. I thought we gave too much cheap possession away. We got control of the ball in that 20 metre area. Started chasing the game a little bit and we didn’t need to do that. Particularly down to 12, when you’ve got to keep the ball in your hand as long as you possibly can, rather than giving the ball back to you. It’s tackle 2, tackle 3.

So, loads of lessons that we can learn but the thing that we want to get from today are we got that togetherness that we’ve built all through preseason I think on are we got that togetherness that we’ve built all through preseason I think on that show I think we are.”

Castleford could have won the game but things fell apart after the red card for Liam Watts.

Lingard was seen on BBC seemingly calling it “ridiculous” at the time though that is based off lip reading.

After the game, he refused to speak on the matter: “I thought it was a really tight contest until… no, I’m not going to say anything. I’m not going to say anything. I’ve only just started the Super League, so I’m not going to let any people take any money off me just yet.”
