Castleford Tigers announce sixth signing ahead of 2024 season

Castleford Tigers have today announced their sixth signing of the off-season, in the form of Hull KR man Sam Wood

The English back, who can play either in the centres or on the wing, pens a deal that will keep him at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle until 2027.

Speaking on his move to West Yorkshire, Wood said: “I’m buzzing! it’s a real good opportunity for me personally to come to Castleford for an extended period of time where I can settle, and I know where I’m going to be playing my Rugby for the next 3 years.”

He added: “I’m at a point in my life now where I want some stability and want to be at a club where I can really make it my own, put my imprint on the club and fight for that starting shirt to really become a part of that club.”

He also commented on the Castleford fans, saying: “I leave everything on the field for the fans and I’ll try my very best every week. I know they’re a passionate group and they turn out in their numbers, so I’ll be trying to repay them week in, week out.”

Wood is already an experienced Super League player, having made 33 appearances for the Robins, and prior to that made 52 appearances in the Claret and Gold of Huddersfield Giants.

He has also spent time in the lower leagues in his career, spending time at Oldham, Workington, Halifax, Batley and Dewsbury.

The Tigers are going through a period of transition, and have let some key senior squad members go. The likes of Greg Eden, Kenny Edwards and Nathan Massey are all leaving the Jungle ahead of the 2024 season; however they have already made strides to replace these departing players, with six new singings already confirmed, including Wood.  PNG internationals Nixon Putt and Sylvester Namo, Lebanese international Elie El-Zakhem, Josh Hodson and Josh Simm complete the list of new arrivals.
