Brisbane Broncos have been hit by the news that one of their young stars has been in off-field bother.
The Queensland club have already had their fair share of off-field drama in 2022, with Payne Haas’ and Albert Kelly’s infamous ‘shoe’ video circling earlier this year.
And, now it appears as though youngster Selwyn Cobbo – who scored two tries in a devastating display against the South Sydney Rabbitohs at the weekend – has been caught in a compromising position.
Cobbo was charged with driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle while on a suspended licence.
The teenager has been disqualified from driving for six months and fined $700 with no conviction recorded after appearing in Nanango court on Monday on road offences.
The Broncos informed the NRL integrity unit of the offence when it occurred a two weeks ago.
Cobbo took full responsibility for the misdemeanour, telling theĀ Daily Telegraph:
I know Iāve done the wrong thing and I take full responsibility for that mistake,ā Cobbo said.
āIāll learn from this and I will strive to make better choices in the future.ā
Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy said: āSelwyn has acknowledged to the club that he made an error in judgement on this occasion.
āSelwyn understands he will need to make better decisions in the future, particularly when it comes to complying with road safety. We will continue to support Selwyn off-field, as well as on it.
āThe club acknowledges the importance of road safety and respecting road laws, as does Selwyn.ā
