Wakefield Trinity complete yet another statement signing

A year ago Bradford Bulls confirmed that at the end of the 2023 season they would be losing young halfback / fullback George Flanagan Jr to Huddersfield Giants.

The Giants were exploiting a Super League clause in his contract to bring in the exciting youngster as a replacement for Will Pryce who is going to Newcastle Knights with Wigan Warriors star Kai Pearce-Paul.

Unfortunately for the Bulls it seems losing their exciting young players is set to become a common occurrence. This is due to their lack of Super League status sadly but at least the club have an Elite Academy Licence once again.

However, this won’t stop them from losing exciting youngster Myles Lawford who is set to join Wakefield Trinity and according The Game Caller they have triggered a release clause in his contract.

It is unknown if Wakefield are the club who reportedly offered £40,000 for the halfback earlier this year which was reportedly accepted at the time.

Either way for Wakefield, it is another statement of intent signing one of the most highly sought after young halfbacks who would have had no end of suitors in Super League.

This shows the growing size of the club and their financial backing.

However, in an interesting twist a former Bulls coach Leigh Beattie has taken to Twitter to say that the only reason he is leaving is because the Bulls want or need the money:

“Myles wanted to stay at the club but there is 40 thousand reason why he won’t be at the club next year.”

The Bulls have had some recent financial boosts with new partners off the pitch including with Oldham-based business M & S Combustion Ltd.

Bradford Bulls’ CEO Jason Hirst said: “I’d like to thank Matty, Sarah and the team once again for their incredible donation last week, which provided a huge boost to us as a club with the signing of Mitch Souter.

“Having spoken to Matty in particular over the last couple of weeks, his desire to #BackTheBulls and support Eamon was evident throughout and we are truly humbled to form a partnership with M & S Combustion.

“I would encourage all supporters to head over to their website to see if they can benefit from the fantastic work Matty, Sarah and the team undertake.”

Matty Mills from M & S Combustion Ltd said:

“We are delighted to work with the Bradford Bulls in 2024. We love Rugby League so when the opportunity arose to help the club last week sign Mitch I was more than happy to help.

“Bradford are a great club and I am looking forward getting across to watch the boys in action next year and seeing them develop under Freddy [Eamon O’Carroll].”
