Bad news for Leigh Leopards

In a huge game this weekend Wigan Warriors travel to Leigh Leopards. Wigan Warriors are striving to secure top spot in a battle with Catalans Dragons and St Helens whilst the home side Leigh need a win to secure fourth and a home play off game against Hull KR.

A defeat and a win for Hull KR against Wakefield Trinity, who have already been relegated, could see them miss out on fourth and have to go to Craven Park in the Super League play offs.

It is a big weekend then for Leigh who are defining the odds but things have worked against the Leopards now with Wakefield having key forwards Jai Whitbread and Kevin Proctor banned.

This is bad news for Leigh ahead of those big games on Friday night as it makes a big win for Hull KR more likely.

Ahead of the game, Adrian Lam has said: “We’re just going to pick our strongest team and go for it. We need to keep trying to build momentum. since the Challenge Cup Final we’ve been up and down a bit.

“There’s been some great performances there and a tough win here last week albeit very close. I think we did some really strong things in that game and set some good standards.

“It’s sold out here next Friday night for the game. It’s our arch rivals as you talked about. Massive game for both clubs, one for Wigan where they could potentially win the League Leaders Shield and one for us where we need to win the stay in the top four.

“They’re saying it could be the biggest crowd since 1996 or some numbers are starting to come up like that now that we’re hearing through the rumour mill here.

“So it’s on TV on Friday night, it’s the main game with the crossing over to other clubs and other games to see where they’re at too with the scoreboards and what not. So massive night for Super League but massive night for us as well.”

As Lam said, the game between Leigh and Wigan is the lead game on Sky with coverage around the rest of the league.
