Leeds Rhinos Headingley Stadium

A new record attendance has been recorded at Headingley today.

This came as Leeds Rhinos and York Valkyrie met in a repeat of the 2022 Women’s Super League Grand Final.

The Rhinos finished third in 2022 but battled hard to defeat York in the decider in St Helens to claim a second Super League title in what was their fourth consecutive Grand Final appearance.

Today was the eagerly anticipated debut of Amy Hardcastle after her huge transfer from St Helens as well as signing from Australia George Hale for the Rhinos.

But it was has been an impressive day from York with them storming 34-12 ahead after being all score at 12-all deep into the first half.

It is the perfect way to celebrate their exciting rebrand in a season that promises much for the women’s game with St Helens also fancied to battle with the Rhinos and York for the Super League title.

It is also a sport riding high after the buzz of the 2022 World Cup and that buzz translated into a huge crowd.

In fact it was a new record for women’s match. A total of 5,308 fans were in attendance at Headingley for the game between the two title favourites which as aforementioned is a new record.

It also shows the sense in double headers with the Rhinos men set to take on Huddersfield Giants next.

The game was also shown on Sky Sports Action in a terrific advert for the game.
