Agar says win was for Newman and Burrow

Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Richard Agar dedicated today’s win in the Challenge Cup semi-finals to Harry Newman and Rob Burrow.

The Rhinos reached their first Challenge Cup Final since they last won the competition in 2015. They beat Wigan Warriors 26-12 at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

Agar said: “I’m pleased for the players, in terms of the way they believed in each other and got each other through some really difficult days, and always stuck together.

“There are a couple of people we thought about today. Rob Burrow and Harry Newman, I would like to dedicate that performance to them.

“Harry came down on his sticks today. While it’ll really hurt him not being part of the Challenge Cup team, I want to dedicate that performance to those two blokes.”

He also said it meant a lot to him personally to lead the Rhinos to Wembley.

He added: “I’m really proud to coach this famous club. Probably got the job by accident! Being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“On a personal level, the Challenge Cup holds a lot of memories for me, going back to my childhood too.

“I’ve been very fortunate to experience Challenge Cup Finals throughout my coaching career, so from that point of view, I am over the moon.”
