Adrian Lam “frustrated” with decisions including “outrageous” yellow card

Leigh Leopards boss Adrian Lam made it clear he was “frustrated” with the officials after his side lost to St Helens in Round Three of the Betfred Super League.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Adrian Lam was brutally honest and said: “We got penalised out of the game and frustrated through a few decisions.

“There was a few through the game. I don’t really want to talk about it and make that the focal point for tonight. I was more, I guess, just frustrated that when the game was in the balance, there were a few decisions to go against us later on in the tackle count.”

Adrian Lam would later go on to slam the decision to sin bin John Asiata: “John’s first point of contact was above the leg and slid down. So, last year that would have been play on. I think a fair call would have been a penalty against but to sin being a player for doing that is just outrageous so it’s where we’re at at the moment you know we’ve got to support the process moving forward so things will change slightly I guess over the next couple of weeks but wait and see.”

Asiata was sin binned for a tackle technique that resembled one that caused himself a lot of controversy in the past.

Leigh Leopards star punished for the past

In last year’s Challenge Cup semi-final between Leigh Leopards and St Helens, Asiata used a particular tackle technique that led to some serious injuries.

It was believed that Alex Walmsley would miss the rest of the season but he was able to make the end of the year before missing the England internationals against Tonga as he recovered from the injury.

Agnatius Paasi is still recovering from injury after the tackle from Asiata left him with ACL, MCL and ankle ligament injuries.

Asiata was unpunished for these tackles due to the rules resulting in a passionate statement from St Helens boss Paul Wellens who would later be fined but the rules where changed by the RFL hence Asiata’s yellow card here which may have been based on his prior reputation.
