“Best of a bad bunch” – Sam Tomkins raises concern about this element of Wigan’s performance

Wigan Warriors are trailing 13-12 at half-time away at Hull KR despite scoring more tries.

They have scored three tries to Hull KR’s two in the first half but because Harry Smith has missed every conversion attempt whilst Lachlan Coote has a 100% with the boot, the Warriors trail because of a Jordan Abdull drop-goal on the half-time hooter.

This has prompted Sam Tomkins to raise concern.

He said on Channel 4: “You’ve scored three tries to two and you should be winning but you’re not you’re losing.

“It is a weakness. They haven’t got many options. Harry Smith is trying his best, he is probably the best of a bad bunch.”

Kane Linnett’s try just minutes into the second half now has Matt Peet’s side trailing by seven points as despite Coote catching the bug and missing the conversion, he was able to notch over a penalty goal to finall create a two-score lead.

The seven point deficit will be frustrating for Wigan fans having matched their opponents try total and it’s potentially an issue they will need to address as the season progresses.
