Tom Burgess makes try scoring joke as he compares England squad to past squads as he praises NRL star

Tom Burgess has been exceptional in the Rugby league World Cup for England.

Burgess has gone from being the exciting youngster in the squad back in 2013 to being the veteran forward as he blows holes in opposition defences and tries to right the wrongs of the 2017 World Cup Final defeat.

He also been scoring tries for fun this tournament with four tries in four games.

Speaking on this to Sky Sports, he joked that he could lose his place in the prop forwards union:

“Four in four games but I’m not really counting, I’ll be kicked out of front rowers club.”

“I’m not too fussed, we don’t really acknowledged tries, it’s more about the little effort areas.”

He also compared the current squad with those of the past as he specifically praised the togetherness of the group and one of his teammates who made his England debut in the tournament: NRL star Victor Radley.

He said: “I’ve made reference already this tournament, at each World Cup I’ve been at a different stage at my career, it’s always a close knit environment.

“This time around there’s been something about it, with Victor in the group he’s really embraced it and we’ve really enjoyed ourselves but when it comes down to business we’ve been on it.
