Twitter explodes over “an embarrassment to rugby” whilst player rivalry compared to WWE match – How social media reacted to Wigan’s win over Hull

In a tight and titanic battle at the DW Stadium, Wigan edged Hull FC 16-14. It was a game that showed just how good the two teams are and reminded the world that they’ll both be battling for the title at the end of the year.

But how did social media see the game?

Going into the contest all eyes was on the battle of the fullbacks – Zak Hardaker and Jake Connor. The two potential England number ones have lit up the league so far this season and all were excited to see how there battle would unfold. This naturally brought about questions over who is currently the better player and everyone had their say.

Unfortunately, the battle maybe got a little bit too physical. Connor was sin binned for a head shot on Hardaker and later he gave away a decisive penalty for slapping him around the head.

One Hull fan felt Connor was unfairly treated for most of the night.

Whilst others responded to Hardaker’s comments claiming that he’s been the best fullback over the last decade.

That said some didn’t think the heavyweight clash lived up to the hype.

Despite all the talk surrounding the fullbacks, it was halfback Jackson Hastings who claimed the man of the match and was arguably the difference. He made it known at the end of the game he wanted to play for England and many believe he should be a part of Shaun Wane’s World Cup squad.

His young halfback partner Harry Smith also impressed carving open the Hull defence on a number of occasions.

Unfortunately the game was sullied by an alleged racist comment from Tony Clubb. Unsurprisingly Twitter had its say.
