Last week we were treated to a rugby league feast and this week promises to be something similar as Sky Sports show every Round 2 fixture in Super League whilst also giving us a mouth-watering selection of NRL games.
The Championship also makes its long-awaited return after year break due to the pandemic.
With all that in mind, here’s every game you can watch live this week.
Thursday:
17:30 Sky Sports Arena, Sky Sports Main Event, OurLeague App – Wigan Warriors v Wakefield Trinity
This week’s rugby begins with an intriguing clash between Wigan and Wakefield at St Helens’ Totally Wicked Stadium. The two sides had conflicting starts to the season as Wigan came back from 18-0 down to beat Leigh whilst Wakefield surrendered a 16-4 advantage against Leeds. However, Trinity showed they have enough class to beat anyone and could cause Wigan problems. The Warriors will be without new recruit Jai Field who is out for five months due to a hamstring injury.
20:00 Sky Sports Arena, Sky Sports Main Event, OurLeague App – Hull KR v St Helens
Usually, the Easter weekend sees the biggest derby matches reach our screens however this year it’s about something more important as Super League celebrates the heart of Mose Masoe after his career-ending injury last January that many feared would mean he would never walk again. His two former clubs are set to do battle and it’s not the foregone conclusion some believe it might be due to the attacking prowess and guts Hull KR showed in their comeback against Catalans. However, the Champions will take some beating.
Friday:
10:00 Sky Sports Arena – Melbourne Storm v Brisbane Broncos
Two of the biggest clubs in the NRL do battle to start to your Good Friday. Neither side has had the best start to the season. Melbourne, despite being the reigning Champions, have lost the last two. Those defeats leave them behind Brisbane in the table. Both sides will be desperate for a win to get their season heading in the right direction.
12:30 Sky Sports Arena, Sky Sports Main Event, OurLeague App – Warrington Wolves v Leigh Centurions
Things don’t get much easier for Super League new boys Leigh. A week after starting their season against the side who finished top last year, they take on Warrington who finished 3rd last term and have been tipped by some to be crowned Super League Champions at the end of the year. However, it wasn’t a brilliant start for Warrington against Castleford. They’ll be desperate to turn it around and claim a first win of the season. Meanwhile, Leigh will be hoping to improve on an impressive performance against Wigan but this time get over the line for the win.
14:45 Sky Sports Arena, Sky Sports Main Event, OurLeague App – Leeds Rhinos v Castleford Tigers
In what could be considered the game of the round, two teams who claimed opening weekend wins meet in what should be a ferocious West Yorkshire derby. The Tigers will be looking to build on a fantastic win against Warrington. Meanwhile, Leeds skipper Luke Gale will be looking to torment his former club in only his second appearance against them in a Rhinos shirt.
Saturday:
9:30 Sky Sports Arena – Gold Coast Titans v Canberra Raiders
Both the Titans and the Raiders have had impressive starts to this season. The Titans, under former Saints coach Justin Holbrook, have won 2 from 3 and sit fourth in the table. Canberra are just two places beneath them in 6th having also claimed two early wins. The Raiders have their fair share of English talents no doubt looking to impress with the World Cup on the horizon.
12:00 Sky Sports Arena, OurLeague App – Salford Red Devils v Hull FC
Hull FC impressed in Round 1 with their spine clicking masterfully. New signing Josh Reynolds showed glimpses of his class as did Marc Sneyd and Jake Connor. You’d expect them to beat Salford. However, the Red Devils showed superb tenacity against the Champions St Helens last week and they’ll make it tough for the Black and Whites in what could be an eye-catching contest.
14:15 Sky Sports Arena, Sky Sports Main Event, OurLeague App – Huddersfield Giants v Catalans Dragons
It’s fair to say neither Huddersfield nor Catalans had the start they’d have wanted last week. The Dragons won but threw away a 28-4 lead. Meanwhile, the Giants missed talisman Aidan Sezer as they sunk to defeat against Hull. Both will be hoping for much more complete performances in Round 2. If both deliver, this could be some contest.
Sunday:
9:10 Sky Sports Arena – Sydney Roosters v New Zealand Warriors
The weekend’s live rugby concludes with another blockbuster in the NRL. Sydney’s fast start to the season was firmly halted by rivals Souths last week as they pick up some damaging injuries to the likes of Luke Keary. They take on a Warriors team who’ve made a decent start to the campaign with 2 wins.
