Why Leeds Rhinos star was banned as opponent escaped

Leeds Rhinos claimed a vital win over Catalans Dragons in Round Three of the Betfred Super League.

The Rhinos battled through heaps of strong Catalans Dragons pressure in the first half before striking first with Brodie Croft kicking in behind for Ash Handley to score for the Rhinos.

They then scored on the very next set through Harry Newman after a Mickael Goudemand break down field.

Catalans battled back to make it 10-10 only for Handley to score again after a lovely assist from Cameron Smith.

Leeds were helped along by James Bentley in the game but many felt he should have been carded for an incident with Tariq Sims.

Surprisingly, Sims, who was later yellow carded, has avoided a ban whilst Bentley has been banned for one game.

Bentley was charged for Grade B Striking. He was banned for being at the higher end of grade.

Bentley will now miss Leeds Rhinos’ trip to Leigh Leopards. The Rhinos will have Justin Sangare in their squad after he avoided a ban for a high tackle and a yellow card against the Catalans Dragons.

Leeds will be hoping they can have Mikolaj Oledzki back in the squad for the game as they look to notch back to back wins and three wins from their opening four.

Leeds haven’t had a start that strong since the 2020 season when they lost one of their opening four games.
