Watson says fatigue a factor for Salford

Salford Red Devils Head Coach Ian Watson believes fatigue was a factor as his side were beaten 58-12 by Wigan Warriors.

It is Salford’s third game in the space of 10 days, and it doesn’t get any easier for them as they face St Helens on Monday, and Warrington on Friday.

He said: “We came up against a really energetic and enthusiastic team. We were flat in training, this is something some of our lads are not used to.

“We are not lucky enough to rest some of the players. Some have played twice. We dont want to make excuses, but look at the minutes Luke Yates and Greg Burke have put in.

“I feel today caught up with the players. Performance and attitude wasn’t were we wanted it to be tonight. We lacked energy and leadership, although I think that was down to fatigue.

It wasn’t that we didn’t want to do it, it was more they physically couldn’t.”
