Three clubs who could sign released Hull FC star Nu Brown

It was confirmed earlier today that Hull FC had released both Tex Hoy and Nu Brown, the Black and Whites seemingly triggering a reset after the sacking of Tony Smith.

There had been rumours earlier in the week suggesting that full-back Hoy could be on his way out, whereas talk did begin last night surrounding Nu Brown.

Among those talks were suggestions that he could go to York Knights in a shock move but Hull FC have now confirmed that the 29-year-old is set to return down under with his release being granted on compassionate grounds.

The club’s statement read: “Hull FC can confirm that Tex Hoy and Fa’amanu Brown have left the club with immediate effect.

“Brown, who was off contract at the end of the season, has requested to return home to be closer to family on compassionate grounds.

“Hoy has also left the club ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the current season.

“The club would like to wish both players well in their future careers.”

It now begs the question of where the New Zealand hooker will end up and we’ve compiled three teams who should have Brown on their short list.

Where will released Hull FC star Nu Brown sign?

New Zealand Warriors

Perhaps the most obvious destination is a return to his native New Zealand and the Warriors, a club that Brown surprisingly hasn’t played for so far in his career.

Having just helped guide the Kiwi national team to a Pacific Championship title including a record-breaking 30-0 win over Australia, it would make sense for Brown to head home.

Currently, the Warriors have Wayde Egan at nine but reserve Freddie Lussick, brother of ex-St Helens man Joey, has been handed a large ban for his tackle that broke the leg of an opponent meaning Brown could be a handy pick-up for depth.

South Sydney Rabbitohs

It’s been a terrible start to the season for Souths and they currently sit at the foot of the NRL for the first time since 2014 but the arrival of a star like Brown could reinvigorate them.

Starting hooker Damien Cook has just been dropped and reports suggest that there could be a coaching change should Jason Demetriou’s side lose against unbeaten Cronulla this weekend.

Brown could be the perfect man to replace the 32-year-old Cook who wasn’t even named in the Bunnies’ New South Wales Cup squad this week.

Wakefield Trinity

A wildcard team to round it off. Whilst Hull FC have confirmed that Brown has been released on compassionate ground and with a request to return home, it doesn’t mean that Brown couldn’t have a hiatus off the pitch before returning to England and one of the most exciting projects in rugby league right now.

Wakefield Trinity owner Matt Ellis has promised big signings and has backed Daryl Clark so far and what better way could Trinity announce their return to Super League than with a signing of Brown’s calibre.

Veterans Liam Hood and Liam Kay currently play in the role with Hood as the starter but Brown is a possible huge coup and one that Ellis could be considering to mentor the likes of young Thomas Doyle and Harvey Smith.
