Wigan Warriors Head Coach Matt Peet has called for more respect for Super League after they defeated the NRL Premiers to claim the World Club Challenge on Saturday night.
The Warriors claimed the trophy thanks to a controversial winner for Jake Wardle but also an amazing tackle from Jai Field which should go down in history.
It is moments like that which makes Super League special and Peet has called for more respect for the sport.
“The NRL is an unbelievable competition, it’s got so much going for it, it’s flying, but we have got a good competition as well,’ said Peet according to the Daily Mail.
“We know what we have got in this country and we should take more pride in it. We talk too much about what they think of us, but we should just concern ourselves with what we think of ourselves.
“I am proud to be a rugby league man. I am proud of rugby league in the North West of England. We shouldn’t shy away from what we are. We are rugby league people who represent working class people.
“I am not too fussed about the NRL. We admire it. It’s an unbelievable competition. But we have a special competition ourselves with some special individuals.
“The players have done it, I haven’t done it. You can be a good coach, but if you don’t have good players, you don’t get much success.
“There is plenty to build on, on an off the field. It was a special night but who is to say we can’t have more nights like that and make it more of a regular thing. The thought of that being our last big night would be horrendous.”
Penrith boss pays credit to Wigan Warriors and Super League
This came as Penrith Panthers boss Ivan Cleary paid tribute to Super League, or at least the top teams. He did however reveal the problem Super League has which is depth in the quality of the competition.
“We have always realised the top teams in Super League are very good,” Cleary said.
“The best teams are going to match the NRL. The thing Super League struggles with is probably the depth.
“One real good thing about the NRL is you never get an easy game. That is probably the difference in the competitions.”

Like there wasn’t any 50 and 60 blow outs last year ask the tigers how many times they stood under the posts they were pathetic and knot on their own.
