Super League side set for sell-out crowd in huge game

We’re less than a week removed from Leigh Leopards becoming Challenge Cup champions in dramatic fashion against Hull KR, Lachlan Lam’s drop goal proving the difference in a game for the ages, however both sides are back in Super League action in the coming days.

Rovers will make a trip to St Helens in an attempt to retain their sixth placed spot and make the playoffs after missing out last year, whereas Leigh will be hoping their cup final opponents do them a favour with Saints chasing down Leigh.

It’s a very congested league table behind Catalans Dragons who sit four points clear of the chasing pack that is Wigan, Saints and Leigh, who are a further six points clear of Warrington and Hull KR.

With the top two spots proving invaluable for the playoffs as they grant a home semi-final, it’s set to be an intense race to the end of the season and home support could play a pivotal role.

That’s something Leigh won’t be short of on Saturday as the club have now reported that the North Stand has now sold out, with just a few limited tickers available in the South and West stand.

A sell out crowd could be the huge boost that the Leopards need to secure the win given how close they came to beating the Dragons in their own back yard a few weeks ago.

Currently Leigh are just nine points behind Saints on points difference but over 80 points behind local rivals Wigan, who stretched that advantage when hammering Leigh recently and when they hit a weakened Hull KR side for over 60.

Leigh only lost to the Dragons 38-30 in Perpignan and coming into this game off the back of their Challenge Cup win with potentially a sold out Leigh Sports Village behind them, it’s set to be an incredible atmosphere at the game.

They have already confirmed the pre match entertainment for the game, something that has set them apart from many Super League sides this season, with fans in line for music from an hour ahead of kick-off from 2pm as band ‘Dodgy’ play.
