Super League Injury News: Super League star’s season over

Big games between Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves, Wigan Warriors and Hull FC, the relegation Grand Final between Wakefield Trinity and Castleford Tigers as well as a top of the table clash between Leigh Leopards and Catalans Dragons were the main talking points this weekend.

Of course there were more big games in the play-off push as Hull KR and Salford Red Devils headed to St Helens and Huddersfield Giants respectively but these played second fiddle to a golden point classic and that relegation Grand Final.

That game saw a Greg Eden hat-trick fire Castleford to a vital win over Wakefield to take a two point lead in the race for survival.

Elsewhere on Friday night we saw a booming Harry Smith drop goal break Hull FC hearts as he made amends for three misses with the boot which would have won the game in normal time.

Salford Red Devils took a vital step towards the play-offs by defeating Huddersfield Giants which was made more important by the defeat for Hull KR at St Helens.

Then on Saturday, we saw Leigh Leopards unable to match French side Catalans Dragons. The Dragons took a four point lead at the top of the league with the win and officially secured their play-off spot.

Meanwhile Sunday saw Leeds Rhinos take a step towards making the play-offs as they edged Warrington in a classic encounter at Headingley.

But how did teams fare on the injury front?

In a vital win over Trinity, Castleford suffered a couple of blows as Jack Broadbent’s season appears to be over after he broke his collarbone and Nathan Massey suffered a knee injury.

There was a head injury for Liam Farrell as Wigan defeated Hull FC and on the flip side of things Hull lost Danny Houghton to a failed Head Injury Assessment and Scott Taylor to a hamstring issue.

As for St Helens, there was a concern for Morgan Knowles over some muscle tightness and Mark Percival needed stiches.

Leigh Leopards suffered a major blow with Josh Charnley going off with a rib injury.

As for Leeds, they lost James McDonnell to an injury in the first half.
