Super League forward handed two match ban

Huddersfield Giants forward

In a repeat of last year’s Challenge Cup Final, Wigan Warriors host Huddersfield Giants.

The two finished second and third in 2022 but are enduring very different seasons in 2023.

Wigan have by no means been perfect this year but are well in the mix at the top and 80 minutes away a second consecutive Challenge Cup Final.

But Huddersfield lie in 10th in the league and their play-off hopes are dangling by a thread.

As the two meet on Friday, the team news is now in.

Matt Peet has named his 21-man squad for Friday’s game.

Peet has named an unchanged 21-player squad from last week’s trip to Salford Red Devils. Kaide Ellis serves the second of a three-game suspension picked up against Warrington Wolves in the Challenge Cup Quarter Final.

Ian Watson has also named his 21-Man Squad ahead of the Giants’ trip to the DW Stadium.

Both Fenton Rogers and Sam Hewitt are recalled from their respective loan deals, with the former in line for his First Team competitive debut in the Claret and Gold, after impressing in the Betfred Championship with Bradford Bulls.

In an interesting twist of fate however, Rogers has now been hit with a ban for dangerous contact when playing for Bradford Bulls reserves.

It is a two match ban. It won’t come into effect until next week but will see him miss two Huddersfield games.

He was also handed a caution.

However he can feature this week which is vital with Theo Fages and Joe Greenwood dropping out with respective injuries.

The big news is that Jake Connor is recalled to the squad after being dropped to play for the reserves last week.

He was alongside Matty English, Esan Marsters and Harvey Livett and Livett and Connor notched tries as the Giants reserves beat those of Leeds Rhinos but the Rhinos first team won comfortably against Huddersfield: 54-0 with nine tries.
