Super League Disciplinary: Four Super League stars charged including major ban

St Helens

Leeds Rhinos and St Helens are two of the biggest teams in Super League history, arguably the two biggest given the fact they are two of the most successful clubs in the Super League era and they were among the teams left with Super League disciplinary worries today.

They will again meet in the Betfred Super League and for the first time in 2024 season on Friday night however it is a game that threatens to be tainted before a ball is even kicked in the Betfred Super League clash.

This is because both teams faced major Super League disciplinary concerns ahead of the game. Leeds could lose Jarrod O’Connor after two high tackles and there is a worry about Brodie Croft according to some. Andy Ackers may also miss the game through injury.

As for St Helens, you would have expected Mark Percival’s red card to be followed up by a ban from the game in Super League Round Four game against Salford Red Devils. There was also a potential concern for Alex Walmsley for tripping. This would be harsh as would any Super League disciplinary action against Warrington Wolves’ Matt Dufty for contact with the match official.

Among other concerns ahead of today’s Super League disciplinary were the yellow carded players Jack Ashworth from Hull FC and Rob Butler from London Broncos.

The Ashworth case was sure to cause a stir.

Super League disciplinary charges

The Match Review Panel have released their Super League Disciplinary verdicts. With four players charged by the panel and only two bans handed out in a real change of pace.

Mark Percival and Jack Ashworth were both banned for head on head contact and Grade D offences. Percival received a two match ban and Ashworth three. Both were also fined ÂŁ250.

Speaking of fines, Wigan Warriors star Luke Thompson was fined as was Jack Murchie as well.

The charges can be seen below:

Mark Percival – St Helens – Head Contact – Grade D – 2 Match Penalty Notice and a ÂŁ250 Fine

Jack Ashworth -Hull FC – Head Contact – Grade D – 3 Match Penalty Notice and a ÂŁ250 Fine

Jack Murchie – Huddersfield Giants – Head Contact – Grade B – ÂŁ250 Fine

Luke Thompson – Wigan Warriors – Dangerous Contact – Grade B – ÂŁ250 Fine

At least the fines will pay for the panels wages, you can’t tackle round the legs, you can’t tackle above the shoulder. Why not just play xxxxxxx tick rugby. It’s getting that silly, I’ve started to support Everton
