Super League club set to join forces with rugby union side

It is not beyond the realms of possibility for Super League clubs to turn to rugby union for signings. In recent years we have seen Leeds Rhinos pull of the major signing of former St Helens star Kyle Eastmond though it didn’t work out.

Meanwhile Hull FC have recently had a rugby union player on trial and that is something another of their Super League rivals has done as well.

Catalans Dragons have allowed a number of players leave lately.

Both Tanguy Zenon and Fouad Yaha have joined Hull KR to replace the injured Lachlan Coote as well as Ryan Hall who has surgery.

But the Dragons won’t be low on numbers any time soon with the club welcoming the arrival of a young rugby union outside back.

They announced that Nino Seguela will be at the club training with the first team on trial this week.

It will be interesting to see if he can catch the eye and gain a spot at the club or if he will return to rugby union when the season begins again in September,

The Dragons released the following statement:

“The Dragons confirm the presence of Nino Seguela with the professional group this week

“The USAP winger will train with the Dragons throughout the week.”

Interestingly, this comes as talks of the Dragons and USAP joining forces emerged in L’Independent.

USAP’s new coach Franck Azema has come out and said that talks are in place to bring the clubs closer together: “That has been mentioned. Possible synergies can be exchanged. We can work on semi-attacks with three-quarters, on wrestling work, bodybuilding…

“We have to find the right timing because they will get closer and closer to the finals. But we will try to stall one or two trainings. The players know each other but there are things that can allow us to grow and help them too.

“We are not going to deprive ourselves of it. This is a unique opportunity in France. Only Toulouse can do the same.”
