Super League club reportedly sign Manly Sea Eagles hooker in major coup

Almost every Super League club has made at least one major signing from the NRL for the 2024 campaign.

Perhaps the one club who hasn’t is the newly promoted London Broncos. That is not to criticise their recruitment strategy lately. The Broncos have made a number of impressive signings such as Hull KR prop Rhys Kennedy.

They have also had a big focus on retaining key players such as impressive fullback and former Wakefield Trinity star Alex Walker.

But now the club have made a major signing from the NRL as per the Mole of Wide World of Sports which will help their chances of avoiding the dreaded wooden spoon in 2024.

This comes after reports over the weekend that Manly Sea Eagles hooker Karl Lawton was in talks with a number of Super League clubs and according to the Mole, London have won the race to sign the hooker in a major coup for the 2024 season showing the ambition displayed by the club.

Lawton made his NRL debut at Gold Coast Titans in 2016 where he made 12 appearances over two seasons crossing for two tries before leaving to New Zealand Warriors in 2018 where he would made 33 appearances over the course of three seasons, scoring six tries which is his best total at any club.

In 2021, he joined Manly Sea Eagles where he has had a similar record. He has made 35 appearances over three seasons which means he played in around half of the club’s games over this three year period. He scored five tries during his time at the club.

He leaves the NRL with 80 appearances over the course of eight seasons in the NRL and having played with some of the best players on the planet which makes him a huge coup for the club.

It is perhaps another vindication for the club who caused a stir when they chose to end their academy. This was so they could put investment into other areas to impress IMG and perhaps some of that money has gone into making this signing which is certainly a stand out piece of recruitment from the club.
