St Helens set to make massive decision ahead of Wigan Warriors clash

St Helens stars rugby league

According to reports, St Helens are still left with a huge decision to make ahead of their massive clash with Super League Champions and fierce rivals the Wigan Warriors on Good Friday.

The two teams will collide in a game many feel could end up being the Super League Grand Final at the end of the season as the duopoly between St Helens and Wigan Warriors continues.

But going into the game, St Helens had some major injury concerns such as the fitness of Morgan Knowles after a bang against Leeds Rhinos and injury blows for Tommy Makinson and Lewis Dodd which kept them out of the Headingley clash.

According to the St Helens Star, Knowles appears good to go but St Helens Head Coach Paul Wellens is left with a big decision over Dodd and Makinson knowing that there is a chance that the duo could re-injure themselves if they are not 100%.

St Helens will name their 21-man squad for the game on Wednesday.

Speaking ahead of the game, Wigan Warriors Head Coach Matt Peet had his say on the club’s official website.

He said: “These are the games we look forward to immensley because we know we have to be at our best to win. It means so much to both sets of supporters from both towns and it has all the makings of an outstanding occasion.

“It’s about striking a balance between the two. You can’t shy away from the emotional side, but it won’t win you the game which means you’ve got to get the rugby side right.”

He went on to add: “We won’t have to remind the players that this is an outstanding fixture as they are very proud individuals who will be motivated by the crowd. As coaches we will concentrate more on the rugby approach.

“It’s completely unique which rugby league fans and people in the two towns understand. Whether the teams are both flying high or having different seasons, it’s an occasion which sells itself because of the history behind it. It never fails to deliver which is a credit to the players.”
