Salford Red Devils set to make two transfers ahead of 2024

Salford Red Devils could be set to make multiple signings ahead of the 2024 season Serious About Rugby League understands.

Of course, the Red Devils are not known as the most affluent club and their stadium problem has hurt their spending power further as has a reduction in TV money following the agreeing of a new slightly less profitable TV deal with Sky Sports.

The club are unable to spend the cap but still have money to play with ahead of 2024. This is because Ken Sio was released on compassionate grounds and Joe Burgess is set to leave the club due to a reported disciplinary matter.

They are also set to enter the market for a winger following Burgess’ expected departure with Lee Kershaw and Derrell Olpherts possible options.

Serious About Rugby League understands that the club is likely to sign a winger and a prop ahead if next year.

They have already signed Cade Cust from Wigan Warriors who has spoken about joining the club on their website.

“Definitely a running game,” he began, “I think I’m a powerful six, so hopefully I can play plenty of games, stay on the pitch and get plenty of wins for the club – I’m really looking forward to it.

“One of the main things for me is playing consistent, week in, week out and putting points on the board.”

On his first week as a whole, the 25-year-old said: “It’s been very enjoyable. First week is obviously the hardest, so I feel like I’ve fit in really well with the players and the coaching staff.”

Cust has joined a very close-nit group; a bond that’s powered the team to some famous victories over the last 24 months.

“It’s been perfect,” he continued when discussing the group dynamic.

“Everyone has welcomed me and it’s been an easy transition. I knew a few boys from Wigan and a couple of the Aussie’s I get along really well with!”

Cust has now been joined in the spine by the arrival of Joe Mellor from Leigh Leopards. The Leopards released him ahead of the expected arrival of Tristan Sailor.
