RFL set to agree new TV deal ahead of 2024 campaign

Super League coverage

Betfred Championship clubs are currently without a broadcasting deal for the 2024 season.

Viaplay Sports withdrew from rugby league broadcasting for 2024, which leaves an opening for any broadcasting company and there is currently no broadcasting agreement in place for the 1895 Cup or the Betfred Championship.

Super League has reportedly secured deals with the BBC as well as their groundbreaking deal with Sky Sports.

Serious About Rugby League understands that Premier Sports are likely set to agree a deal with the RFL for the 2024 season which could also include some Challenge Cup fixtures as their previous coverage of the sport included.

According to the Telegraph and Argus, at the Championship launch Rhodri Jones, the managing director of Rugby League Commercial said: “We’re in dialogue with broadcasters.

“Our League exists as a membership platform, and that Sportsman deal is already secured for League 1.

“Ultimately, there will be an opportunity for fans to see Championship action, but there’s nothing to announce today.”

As aforementioned Super League have confirmed a deal with Sky Sports which will see every fixture shown live on Sky Sports from the start of the season.

These will be shown mainly on Sky Sports Arena as well as Sky Sports Mix, Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Action.

However, there is set to be a Super League streaming service called SuperLeague+ which will allow clubs to watch games except for two which are to be shown exclusively on Sky Sports and coverage of this will be delayed on SuperLeague+ for 24 hours.

Meanwhile, BBC are set to agree a deal with the sport and will show games on on Saturday nights from 17:30 with kick-off set to be from 18:00.

If Premier Sports secures a deal for the Championship they are expected to broadcast games on Sunday evenings moving forward meaning an end to Monday night games that we have seen the last few years on Premier Sports and Viaplay.
