Revealed: Super League star left out of huge fixture

After some huge games between Wigan Warriors and Hull FC, Wakefield Trinity and Castleford Tigers on the days before, the weekend closes with another huge Super League clash as Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves meet.

Two teams chasing a spot in the top six, they were both expected to make the cut at the start of the season by some.

It is one win a piece so far for the two play-off rivals and this game feels vital in the context of the season.

However, Warrington Wolves will be without a key forward in the shape of Sam Kasiano who has surprisingly been rested by Gary Chambers.

He explained: “If I needed to call on anyone, we’d play them, that’s probably the best way. I won’t play Sam Kasiano this week, it gives me a chance to freshen him up a little bit. There may be a couple of other things that we change around. It’s just a matter of waiting to see how people come up on Friday.

“Yeah, it gives us a chance to take him off his feet, get some watt bike stuff going on. He’s got a few bumps and bruises, we need to look after them as well a little bit.

“Because we’ve got numbers, what I’d probably like to do is rotate a couple of players at a time and keep them fresh so that they’re in for a week, out for a week, and then when you get to the real business end of the season, we’ve kept everyone fit and we’re all going for it and pushing against each other there.

“So even the reserves will be strong and I’ve told them exactly the same thing.

“It’s 13 on 13 in training. It’s strong reserves, strong first team and then we’ll see who comes out at the other end and is really pushing for a bit of form at the end of the season.”

The match, which is part of a triple header for the Rhinos’ annual Family Day at Headingley kicks off at 3pm – with Our League’s 5-camera coverage starting at 2.30pm, and available to order for an Earlybird price of £6.95, increasing to £10 on the day of the match.

It will be the 4th Betfred Super League fixture shown live on Our League pay per view this season, and a debut for both the Rhinos and the Wolves.

It means three Round 22 matches will be shown on consecutive days this weekend, following Sky Sports’ coverage of Wakefield Trinity versus Castleford Tigers on Friday night (8pm kick-off), and Leigh Leopards versus Catalans Dragons on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

And there will now be a double header featuring Leeds teams on Sunday afternoon, with Our League’s coverage of the Super League fixture following live streaming of the Betfred Wheelchair Challenge Cup Final between the Rhinos and Catalans Dragons on BBC iPlayer, and the BBC Sport website and app.

Tickets for the Leeds Family Day, including the Rhinos versus Wolves clash at 3pm, are still available from both clubs, with junior tickets for only ÂŁ5 – Family Day: What’s on Guide (therhinos.co.uk)
