Revealed: Can Wigan Warriors and Hull FC use loophole to dodge suspension

The Match Review Panel met today and Wigan Warriors, Hull FC, St Helens, Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos stars all found themselves in hot water after the latest round of Super League action.

There were a huge 11 charges issued by the Match Review Panel as well as a caution but only three bans were handed out.

No player escaped this week without a punishment but eight players charged were only fined.

One of them was Leigh Leopards star Matt Davis. Many Leigh fans were likely scared when they saw his name amongst the charges but he escapes with only fine.

The three players banned where Wigan Warriors star Kaide Ellis and St Helens forward James Bell who were both charged with dangerous contact.

Hull FC’s Brad Fash was banned for other contrary behaviour after a late hit on a kicker.

Bell will serve his ban this week as Saints take on Huddersfield Giants in a postponed Round One clash but Wigan and Hull FC both have weeks off due to the Challenge Cup Final.

In the past when a side have had a week off clubs have been able to use a loophole using a reserves fixture to serve the suspension.

However, there are no reserves games so this week cannot count towards their bans thus they will indeed miss Round 22.

Wigan are chasing a spot in the top two and Hull FC are hunting down the top six.

Following the latest round of Betfred Super League fixtures, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions:
