NRL star could be set for immediate Super League transfer

NRL club the Parramatta Eels today have released Jirah Momoisea from his contract potentially opening the door for a move to Super League.

There has been no confirmation of what will happen next for the talented forward who has 11 NRL appearances to his name at Newcastle Knights and the Parramatta Eels but he could be of interest to Super League clubs especially someone like the Warrington Wolves after the exit of Sam Kasiano.

Also Championship clubs like the Bradford Bulls may be interested in drafting in the forward for the 2024 campaign.

Super League move looms after release

The Parramatta Eels confirmed the news of his departure in a statement this morning. They said:

“The Parramatta Eels and Jirah Momoisea have agreed upon a release for the remainder of his contract effective immediately.

“Jirah made his Club debut for the Eels in Round 1 last year against Melbourne.

“Originally from New Zealand where he captained the esteemed St Paul’s College rugby union team, he moved to Australia in 2017 and made his NRL debut in 2021.

“The Eels would like to thank Jirah for his contribution to the Eels and wish him and his family all the best for the future.”

Where will he end up?

In Super League, with the vast majority of clubs having used all their quota spots, the most likely destination is the Halliwell Jones and the Warrington Wolves following Sam Kasiano’s exit.

He would make the ideal replacement and fit right into the revamped Warrington Wolves culture brewing under Sam Burgess in Super League 2024. Burgess himself is of course an added lure given his reputation over in Australia.

Salford Red Devils have been open about wanting a prop but would have to move someone out of the squad to make this move happen which seems unlikely at this juncture. The same could be said of the London Broncos as well.

So, arguably, a move to the Championship could make the most sense. He could further bolster Wakefield Trinity’s pack ahead of the new season or be the latest big signing made by the Bradford Bulls.

Featherstone Rovers have been revamping their squad for 2024. Perhaps they could make a move for the forward.
