NRL clubs reportedly interested in Leigh Leopards boss Adrian Lam

For the first time since 1986, the Challenge Cup Final was without Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves and St Helens as Leigh Leopards and Hull KR met at Wembley.

It is emblematic of a changing of the guard at the top of Super League with Leigh emerging as major contenders under former Wigan Warriors boss Adrian Lam.

Lam took over at Leigh in 2022 and only suffered defeat twice in the entire season losing to Featherstone Rovers in Round Two and then to Hull KR in the Challenge Cup funnily enough.

The then Centurions won the 1895 Cup, the League Leaders’ Shield and the Championship Grand Final earning promotion before lifting the Challenge Cup in 2023.

Lam has really impressed and it is often forgotten that he led Wigan to the League Leaders’ Shield in 2020 and was a bounce of the ball away from Grand Final glory against St Helens in a year he was named coach of the year.

Thus, it is no surprise that the Mole of Wide World of Sports is saying that NRL clubs are set to chase the Leigh boss.

Funnily enough, Lam addressed any interest from the NRL after the final.

“Maybe one day, yeah. I think so. I’m the happiest coach in the world at the moment, too. I love my job that I do. I drive to work every morning,” he said when asked.

“I feel so happy that I’m there and I’m resigning there for another year. I don’t want to go anywhere else. It’s just, you know, some great memories are getting, it’s hard to want to think about leaving to be honest at the moment because of what they’re achieving and I don’t want to go anywhere and I don’t want to even think about it.

“If that opportunity comes up, we’ll deal with it when it does but for now, you know, I’m grateful that we’ve brought some civil way back to Leigh. It’s been a very long time. They haven’t had much to cheer about and, you know, I think, you know, imagine how happy they’re going to be on that drive back tonight or tomorrow morning and they’ve got this, something to talk about, you know, they’re saying we’re not just a bus stop anymore and all that sort of stuff.

“Yeah, just very grateful for what we have, the people around us, and we’ve just got to keep getting better as we go.”

So it seems Lam is here for the time being. In fact both Lams are at the club long term and that is bad news for Super League.
