Major rugby league club forced into “life saving” stadium move

Newcastle Thunder are calling on the whole of the Rugby League family to fill the Millennium Stadium in a very special one off fixture to help support Rugby League in the North East

With Kingston Park unavailable on Sunday 18th February the club have been working to find the best venue for this fixture. As per the RFL rules, league one clubs retain the gate receipts for the 1895 cup group games, with that in mind we have been working hard to source a venue as close to Wakefield as possible so that the game can be attended by as many Wakefield and Rugby League fans as possible.

The club have now confirmed that this game will take place at Featherstone Rovers Millennium Stadium on Sunday 18th Feb at 3pm. It has been well documented that we are starting from scratch as a club so this game could be an absolute lifesaver, with the ground very accessible for not only Wakefield fans but the whole Rugby League family. We hope that everyone comes out to support this fixture and help secure professional Rugby League in the North East.

Following the announcement, the club described the move as “life saving.”
