Leigh Leopards major signing reportedly confirmed ahead of 2024

Leigh Leopards are closing in on another major signing ahead of the 2o24 season according to reports in Australia.

The Leopards made serious headlines when they signed Cronulla Sharks veteran Matt Moylan to replace the Featherstone Rovers bound Ben Reynolds ahead of the 2024 season. But many thought that was the end of their business. This was until Derek Beaumont hinted at a move for an overseas player on Leopards TV revealing that they were trying to sort out a player’s visa.

This player is believed to be Brisbane Broncos fullback Tristan Sailor. The fullback has had limited opportunities at Brisbane due to the form of Reece Walsh. He has been linked with Super League moves to Hull FC and Catalans Dragons over the course of 2023 but it seems the Leopards have won the race to sign him.

This has been reportedly widely by Rugby League Live and The Mole however there were Visa problems and salary cap problems for the Leopards to contend with. But now a new report has come from Zero Tackle reporting that the deal is all but confirmed as the club have been able to get over these teething problems with the deal.

Sailor is highly thought of down under with Broncos coach Kevin Walters labelled Sailor a “real footballer” after he signed a contract extension with the club in July.

“Tristan has been really impressive since joining us at the start of the preseason, he is a real footballer and he has worked hard and now he is reaping the rewards for that dedication,” Walters said.

“He has been playing some fantastic footy in Cup and then he has stepped up when we have called on him in first grade and done a great job for his team.

“He brings a lot off the field as well around the group and I’m sure his dad (Wendell) and all his family will be filled with pride that he is continuing on their legacy here at the Broncos.”

Where Sailor will play for Leigh remains unclear at this point with the club operating with Gareth O’Brien at fullback last year.
