Leigh Leopards and St Helens alleged incident set to be looked at by the RFL

After the game between St Helens and Leigh Leopards, there was an alleged incident involving a Leigh official or staff member.

In footage captured at the Totally Wicked Stadium, a member of the Leigh staff appeared to be exchanging words with a fan when things got physical resulting in a bottle being thrown. The footage can be watched here.

Members of the Leigh Leopards playing staff appeared to be involved as well.

It is important to know that no real judgement can be made on the incident until it is revealed what was said to spark the altercation.

Furthermore, it has not yet been confirmed who was involved in the incident despite numerous false accusations which are untrue.

What Serious About Rugby League can confirm, via an RFL spokesperson, is that the incident will be looked at.

It will be followed up using reports from the match commissioner and the ground safety officer in the usual way.

The RFL will also be looking at John Asiata‘s tackle today from the game which sparked a lot of controversy after the new rules were introduced at the start of this Super League season season.

This will be part of the Match Review Panel.

Footage of Leigh Leopards incident emerges

After the game, it appeared that a Leigh Leopards official of staff member was captured in footage having an angry altercation with a fan after the game. The footage has been widely circulated across social media and unfortunately led to numerous false accusations. The video also shows members of the Leigh squad involved in an effort to try and control the situation.

It is unknown what was said during the altercation which had some physical contact but did see a water bottle thrown.

It is important to remember that there are two sides to every story and without knowing what may have been said, it is impossible to reach a verdict on the incident. That being said, it is important to remember the standards we have set in this sport and if someone on either side of this altercation has let down those standards it would be deeply disappointing.
