Leeds Rhinos star posts gruesome image of horrific injury

Leeds Rhinos picked up an important win over Rivals Round against West Yorkshire neighbours Castleford Tigers after back to back defeats against St Helens.

The two sides were left level at halftime with not a point scored in the game. But Leeds got the ball rolling in the second half with four tries and braces for new signings Paul Momirovski and Lachie Miller.

The centre scored back to back tries from a Brodie Croft kick and a James McDonnell break. Lachie Miller then scored from another kick before notching a second after a try for Castleford Tigers winger Josh Simm.

The second was delightful as he backed up a brilliant break from Brodie Croft to score under the sticks.

A great win for the Rhinos but it was one that threatened to be costly on the injury front.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds Rhinos boss Rohan Smith revealed that Harry Newman passed his HIA.

This is despite reports on Sky that he had failed. He did however have to go to hospital as Smith explained: “Newman passed his HIA, the concussion aspect of it.

“But he has got a nasty split to his lip which is going to need a fair few stitches, I’d imagine, when he gets to the hospital. Hopefully there’s nothing else structurally there, but we’ll find out once he goes.”

After this Newman shared an image of the cut on Instagram. It won’t make for nice viewing:

Smith did confirm that James Bentley failed his HIA and will miss the game against Warrington Wolves next Friday: “Bentley failed his HIA, but he is feeling okay, which is the priority. He will be out for a couple of weeks.”

The Rhinos will be hoping that there is a small possibility that David Fusitu’a could return to the side. However, as he recovers from surgery this is unlikely.

This will likely mean James Donaldson becomes an option though Tom Holroyd may replace Bentley in the 17 in a round about way.

He missed the game against Castleford Tigers through a bruised elbow.
