Leeds Rhinos main transfer target makes big decision on his future

Leeds Rhinos have some huge names heading off contract at the end of the season, not least their half-back pairing of Aiden Sezer and Blake Austin with both men currently uncertain of their future at Headingley.

There’s also already been some confirmed departures with a huge blow being young prop Sam Walters who is set to head to Wigan Warriors for the 2024 season where he will link up with another young English forward in Tyler Dupree, who has arrived from Salford.

Given that they’re potentially lacking in the halves and with just young Jarrod O’Connor at hooker the Rhinos had targeted former Huddersfield Giants man Danny Levi, who is able to play throughout the spine although primarily at nine.

Levi is currently playing in the NRL for Austin and Sezer’s old club, Canberra Raiders, and he had been a key target of Leeds for the future.

Rohan Smith’s side suffered a blow when it was confirmed that Levi had signed on at Canberra until the end of 2024 and now the Raiders have tied him down until 2025, making any possibility of a deal look nigh on impossible.

Levi featured for Huddersfield Giants in the 2023 season before returning back down under where he joined Canberra Raiders, with whom he has extended.

Leeds’ pursuit of Levi comes with the shock decision earlier in the season that saw captain and starting hooker Kruise Leeming leave the club and head to the NRL to play for Gold Coast Titans.

Leeming will return to Super League in 2024 however with Wigan Warriors instead of the Rhinos, meaning if Leeds truly did want Levi to be their hooker then they’ll have to look elsewhere.
