Jon Wilkin predicts huge Super League shock

As we head into the final round of the Super League season, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, Hull KR and Leigh Leopards have plenty to play for.

Wigan, St Helens and Catalans Dragons are wrapped up in a battle for the League Leaders’ Shield and the accompanying home semi-final that comes with finishing first or second in the Betfred Super League.

Warrington Wolves take on Huddersfield Giants knowing a win will likely secure a play off spot but defeat will open the door wide for Salford Red Devils to steal ahead of them in the Super League table and take the final play off spot.

Hull KR and Leigh Leopards are also fighting over fourth and a home semi-final this week.

But that tussle between Warrington and Salford feels like the biggest and Jon Wilkin has had his say and has predicted a major shock.

He said of Huddersfield Giants vs Warrington Wolves: “If you know anything about Huddersfield, there’s a player in that team called Jake Connor; and if I was Jake Connor I would be so excited to have a moment.

“He’s had an indifferent year, Huddersfield have been dire at stages during the season, but you wouldn’t back against them putting one on Warrington.

“It’s what have Warrington got left; now whether Paul Vaughan plays or not, they’re going to have to find something just to get them into the playoffs, then once they’re in the playoffs who knows; but I fancy Huddersfield.

“I just think Jake Connor and all of those Huddersfield players, who have had such a disappointing year, who have got the holidays booked in Mexico, the speedos are packed, they’re ready to drink as many mojitos as physically possible, but wait, there’s just one more game and they could knock Warrington out of the play-offs and I think they’ll be excited to do that.

“So for Salford it’s do or die for them and I’m backing Salford. I think there’s a huge, huge incentive for them to be brilliant. I know Steve McNamara and Catalan will be interested in getting that top spot but I think Wigan have got that stitched up and it’s going to be an incredible game.”
