In Round One of the Betfred Super League there were a number of controversial incidents that would spiral out into controversy with regards to the disciplinary.
There were initially nine players banned with three more banned at tribunal.
This came after a massive number of cards in Super League Round One including red cards in the games between Hull FC and Hull KR, Castleford Tigers and Wigan Warriors as well as Catalans Dragons and Warrington Wolves.
The red card at Catalans for Michael McIlorum was followed by a yellow card for Jordy Crowther and this has now been slammed by Jon Wilkin on Sky Sports.
Super League star accused of diving
As Wilkin gave his good, bad and ugly for Round One, he accused Romain Navarrete for diving in the incident.
He said: “The ugly for me this week was that we had a lot of disciplinary issues in round one and a lot were cards, but this one annoys me more than anything.
“This is a dive, we talk about diving in football. This is a dive. Romain Navarrete, you’re one of the biggest, most aggressive players in the competition and you’re feigning injury on purpose to get somebody in trouble.
“Now, there’s a lot of men in Yorkshire who have had hip replacements and have bent noses, who are very disappointed at that clip in particular.
“There’s no place for that in our game. It’s a tough sport. I don’t like the amount of players that are trying to milk penalties. In the opening round, that was my ugly.”
Crowther was suspended after the opening game and he will miss the game against Hull FC on Friday night.
The Black and Whites meanwhile are going to miss the likes of Herman Ese’ese and Franklin Pele in the game between the two this week after they both struggled in Round One with Hull losing to their butter rivals Hull KR 22-0 whilst Warrington lost to 12-man Catalans Dragons.
It will have been a bitter disappointment for Sam Burgess in Round One but he has been frank about wanting to improve in Round Two.
